In an epic win for Georgia, the State House has passes the Religious Freedom Restoration Act - effectively securing a victory in a battle that has spanned more than a decade.
Governor Brian Kemp is poised to sign the bill soon.
The bill that passed was the unamended federal mirror RFRA that we have been championing. This top priority now restores First Amendment protections for all Georgians, and we are so grateful for this monumental win.
We would like to thank the Senate sponsor, Sen. Ed Setzler, who carried this fight over many years, and the House sponsor Rep. Tyler Paul Smith.
Thank you to Lt. Governor Burt Jones, who passed this bill out of the Senate twice in a row - a feat previous leaders of that Chamber lacked the courage to do. He was unflinching in his support, and I’m grateful to the entire Senate Republican Caucus who voted for this bill. One such Senator, Marty Harbin, who celebrates his birthday with the passage, was a previous sponsor of the bill, and we are grateful to him.
Thank you to Speaker Jon Burns, who resisted a major push from woke corporate interests to weaken the bill. Our faithful Speaker stood strong, and we are grateful to him and all members who voted for the bill.
And, I want to thank Governor Brian Kemp. In 2018, he pledged that he would get this done. He remained steadfast, and he deserves a tremendous amount of credit.
Lastly, I want to thank all of you. You have been faithful in your support and prayers. What a victory!
Now, we are not done. We have one more Committee Day and one more Legislative Day to go. To support the continued fight, please consider a generous donation today!
Grateful,
