John,Last night, Andrew Cuomo went into a Manhattan synagogue (ironic, since he refuses to participate in any forums or debates) and made ludicrous attacks about Judaism on his opponents, including me (the highest ranking Jewish elected official in New York City government).

Here's what I have to say about it:

A beyzer gzar zol er af dir kumen.

For the non-Yiddish speakers, that roughly translates to “Get the f**k out of here.”

Andrew Cuomo doesn't get to tell me how to be Jewish, John. But here's the bigger point:

Non-Jews weaponizing antisemitism to score political points is offensive and dangerous. Not only does Andrew Cuomo have a long history of doing so to advance his personal ambitions, he also has a very disturbing record when it comes to our Jewish communities.

First, Andrew Cuomo is the only candidate running for Mayor who has been sued for antisemitism.

That's right — during the pandemic, three Jewish congregations including Hasidic and Haredi communities sued Cuomo for discrimination [[link removed]] . They specifically cited a clear-cut streak of “negative, false, and discriminatory statements against the Orthodox Jewish community.”

Case in point: after Cuomo resigned in disgrace in 2021, it was reported [[link removed]] in the New York Times that he complained about having to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, screaming about, “These people and their f**king tree houses!”

(We have a sukkah in my backyard [[link removed]] every year, Andrew, and I plan to have one at Gracie Mansion. Sorry if that bothers you.)

It was also recently reported [[link removed]] in the New York Times that Cuomo created a PAC which he claimed would exist to combat antisemitism. He raised lots of money for it, and got lots of press — and all the group did was write a couple of op-eds to boost his political comeback. Once again, Cuomo used Jews as nothing more than political pawns for his own egotistical, petty games.

John, if Andrew Cuomo is ready to answer for his antisemitism towards Jewish people, let's hear it — because I'm proud to have put out the most comprehensive plan [[link removed]] for combating antisemitism and hate crimes of any candidate in the race.

My plan includes strengthening the NYPD's partnership with the Citizens Crime Commission to identify violent extremism online and prevent it from moving offline.

I’ll keep Jessica Tisch, the first Jewish woman police commissioner in the City, in her current post. We’ll beef up the Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes, and promote anti-hate education in our high schools.

Here’s the bottom line, John. Andrew Cuomo's approach to leadership is driven by his desire to weaponize literally anything for his personal political gain. That, and his massive ego — where his reflex is to abuse others in a lame attempt to look like a tough guy.

My approach is different and it comes from Rabbi Hillel, who is famously quoted with the following:

If I'm not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am alone, what am I?

John, I'll build a city where everyone is safe from antisemitism, hatred, and bigotry, and where Andrew Cuomo's political scheming and corruption are a distant memory.

And if Andrew wants to question my commitment to my people, he can say it to my face.

In solidarity,

Brad
