With the newly-formed Democratic Doctors Caucus

Meet the first-ever Democratic Doctors Caucus!
I’m honored to be a co-chair of the new Democratic Doctors Caucus, which includes every Democratic physician in the House. We represent a variety of specialties and areas of the country. As the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans continue to push devastating cuts to Medicaid and the NIH, the Democratic Doctors Caucus will work to combat misinformation and stand up for health care, evidence-based science, and lifesaving research. Hear more about our caucus here.

Doctors raise alarm on HHS, FDA and CDC layoffs
I joined the Democratic Doctors Caucus in strongly condemning Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s proposed mass firings at HHS, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control. The elimination of 20,000 jobs will have devastating consequences for public health and safety. As America faces a rapidly expanding measles outbreak and a deadly bird flu outbreak, these terminations put American lives at risk. Read more here.

Fighting Back for Minnesota Families

Minnesotans are speaking out and making it clear: President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ reckless budget cuts put Minnesotans’ lives and well-being in danger. I was honored to join Minnesotans (and some of my fellow legislators!) to highlight how President Trump’s policies will hurt Minnesotans.

Fighting to Protect Health Care Image

Advocating for Medicaid at Hennepin Healthcare

More than 1.2 million Minnesotans get their healthcare through Medicaid (known as Medical Assistance in Minnesota) – including many here at Hennepin Healthcare. I joined Rep. Ilhan Omar, County Commissioner Irene Fernando, Hennepin Healthcare CEO Jennifer DeCubellis, Hennepin Healthcare Board of Directors Chair Mohamed Omar, and doctors and patients at Hennepin Healthcare to speak out against Republicans’ proposed budget that would gut Medicaid. I will never vote for a budget that doesn’t protect Medicaid – and I’m calling on my Republican colleagues to stand with their constituents and protect Americans’ healthcare.

Fighting to Protect Mental Health Care Research & Funding

Advocating for mental health care research and funding with NAMI Minnesota

I joined Sen. Tina Smith, Rep. Angie Craig, NAMI (the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), and doctors and patients to highlight the life-saving mental health research that President Trump is trying to gut. President Trump’s cuts to the National Institutes of Health would jeopardize advances in mental health treatment. Mental health shouldn’t be a partisan issue – but President Trump is putting health care, mental health care, and funding for research on the chopping block so he can cut taxes for the wealthiest among us.

Fighting to Lower Costs for Working Families
Image

At PICA Head Start in Brooklyn Park, with parents, students, and administrators

Parents in Minnesota know how expensive it is to raise a family. New parents spend up to $20,000 on baby needs in the first year alone. Unfortunately, as President Trump’s sweeping tariffs take effect, prices will only go up – and working-class families and their kids will be hurt the most. I joined parents and community leaders in Brooklyn Park to highlight the cost of raising a family and to urge President Trump to exempt essential baby items like car seats, high chairs and cribs from his tariffs.

In-District Updates

Thank you for coming to our town hall!
Image

Image

About two weeks ago, I hosted my first in-person town hall, and the Third District turned out in full force, with almost 2,000 attendees. Much gratitude to Bloomington Mayor Tim Busse for serving as moderator, and to the Scouts who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. I can’t say it enough – thank you! Thank you for showing up and making your voices heard. We would love your feedback ahead of our next town hall. Please let us know what went well, how we can improve, and what you would like to hear more of by taking this survey. We didn’t get to answer every question – our office is working to process your questions and will be getting back to you shortly.

I know many of us, myself included, are scared, frustrated, and outraged at the Trump Administration’s illegal actions over the past few months. But last month’s town hall and all the town halls, rallies, and protests across the country prove one thing: we are not powerless. Keep coming together. Keep sharing your stories. Keep organizing. As your Representative, I will do everything I can to fight back against President Trump’s dangerous agenda. We are in this together.

A great in-district week

As always, it was great to be back home. I met with some wonderful people and learned about many organizations that serve the Third District.

Image

I was honored to speak at the Minnesota Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Interfaith Iftar. One of our district’s greatest strengths is its wealth of diversity, cultures, and experiences, including the Ahmadiyya community and their work to promote peace abroad and at home.

I met with the Magnus Veterans Foundation, founded by Dr. Shawn Alderman, which provides mental and physical health and wellness care to veterans and their families. We discussed how to ensure our veterans receive the highest quality care. As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, I’m committed to making sure our veterans have the support they need and deserve. Great to see Hennepin County Commissioner Kevin Anderson, state Senator John Hoffman, and state Rep. Kaela Berg!

I joined the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation for a labor roundtable, where I spoke with union leaders and members from across Minnesota. I’m proud to be a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party – and to be a cosponsor of bills like the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act.

I also toured the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s world-class facility with Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker. Grateful for their important work!

I met some incredible people this week, and I’m looking forward to the next time I can be back in our amazing district! If you would like to request a meeting or visit with me or our staff, please email [email protected]

Use Your Voice

These are difficult times. There is so much chaos, confusion, and division. But your voice is now more important than ever. As your representative, I am committed to sharing your stories, taking your concerns to Congress, and making sure we are fighting together to uphold our democracy and make life better for all Minnesotans and Americans.

Are you concerned about Elon Musk dismantling agencies like the Department of Education?

Do the proposed cuts in the House Republican budget resolution threaten any programs you or your loved ones rely on?

Have you been impacted by the mass firings of civil servants including 10,000 HHS workers, or the proposed terminations of 80,000 VA workers?

Please use this form to tell your story.

Speaking out and sharing stories is a powerful tool.

I want to hear from you. We are in this together.
