My name is Abbey Clements, and I am a co-founder of Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence. I was an elementary school teacher for 32 years, and taught over 600 kids in pre-k, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade across 3 states (NY, TX, CT).
Late in 2012, my life changed forever when the unthinkable happened at Sandy Hook Elementary school. I was teaching second grade at Sandy Hook that morning, and I taught for 11 ½ years after that because I’ll never stop working for kids and our communities.
In 2021, together with Sarah Lerner and Sari Beth Rosenberg, we co-founded Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence because the unthinkable
keeps happening. We started this movement to amplify voices that were largely ignored: teachers who are on the front lines.
