Herbert,
Spring is on its way and, today, there’s a spring in my step.
Democrats just notched a decisive victory in a major Wisconsin judicial race, with voters rejecting a MAGA extremist candidate whose campaign was fueled by $25 million in Elon Musk donations. Two other House races in Florida were significantly closer than expected.
Speaking of the House, Speaker Mike Johnson yesterday cancelled votes for the rest of the week and sent members home after nine Republicans joined Democrats to block a rule that would prevent new parents from being allowed to vote in absentia. This was a win not just for Democrats, but working families everywhere.
Before the House vote, I headed down the hall to cheer on Senator Cory Booker as he delivered his historic filibuster in protest of the Trump Administration’s assault on democracy. As a former history and government teacher, I especially appreciate that the new Senate filibuster record now belongs to Senator Booker rather than Senator Strom Thurmond – who had taken to the floor in an extended speech against the Civil Rights Act of 1957, intending to delay access to voting for black Americans.
The momentum is on our side. Will you contribute to help me keep up the fight? If we keep winning small battles, we can win the war.
