Among them are some of our nation’s most talented scientists, like Dr. Richard Youle, who recently won the prestigious Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for his groundbreaking research identifying the mechanisms behind the deadly Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s disease is one of the most widespread degenerative neurological conditions in the world. It robs over six million people around the world of their golden years, subjecting its victims and their families to the agonizing process of watching their loved ones slowly lose who they were. In the United States, more than 90,000 people will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease this year. It’s the fastest-growing brain disease in the world.

The consequences of losing brilliant minds like Dr. Youle’s will be beyond devastating. “This will go down as one of the darkest days in modern scientific history in my 50 years in the business,” says Michael Osterholm, an infectious-diseases epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in Minneapolis. “These are going to be huge losses to the research community.”

Reports from NIH staff indicate that mass purges by the DOGE team are hitting labs involved in clinical trials, and there’s no plan for what will happen to the data they’ve accumulated so far or the patients involved in the trials. It’s a disaster from top to bottom.

But it can all be reversed with the stroke of a pen. Sign the petition and demand that DOGE put Dr. Richard Youle and the rest of the fired scientists back to work!
