Today, my opponent spoke at the Virginia March for Life rally in Richmond. She stands with the current Governor of Virginia, who has said that he would “happily and gleefully” sign any anti-choice bill that comes across his desk.

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, lawmakers across the country have introduced and passed dangerous legislation that restricts reproductive rights. It’s just cruel — women have died waiting for treatment while doctors have waited for them to become sick enough to intervene. The problem with waiting for the “life of the mother” provisions to provide care is that sometimes it’s too late, and that mother dies. It’s horrific, and Virginia is the only Southern state that hasn’t further restricted women’s reproductive rights or risked women’s lives since the Dobbs decision, thanks to our Democratic-held General Assembly. We need to make sure those protections stand.

My Republican opponent has made her stance clear: she has stated she would support a near-total abortion ban. In her current role as Lt. Governor, she even cast the tie-breaking vote against protecting the right to access contraception. Can you believe it? She voted against protecting women’s access to birth control!

These attacks on choice have no place in Virginia. Virginians deserve a Governor who will stand up for reproductive rights and protect a woman’s right to keep her healthcare decisions between her and her provider – not with the government.
