Friend, meet my new colleague.

Last night, Randy Fine — the ‘MAGA Lawmaker’ in the headline above — won a special election in Florida to represent his district in Congress.

A few months ago he tweeted about potentially coming to Congress:

“@RashidaTlaib and @IlhanMN might consider leaving before I get there. #BombsAway”

Well, Randy, I’m not going anywhere.

Ever since I first decided to run for office I have dealt with the hate and harassment that comes with being a Muslim woman in public life.

From attacks by the right-wing news media, to random threats of violence, to Donald Trump himself, who once told me to “go back” to where I came from.

So this latest attack is nothing new — but that doesn’t make it okay. This thinly-veiled threat from a soon-to-be MAGA congressman is meant to intimidate me, my colleagues, and Muslim-Americans who look like me. But we’re not backing down.

I won’t give an inch in the fight for justice for all because we have a big, wonderful movement of folks of all backgrounds on our side. I hope I can count on your support as we offer our alternative to the emboldened hate of the far-right.
