The Trump Administration wants you to believe that massive cuts in staffing will have no effect on the services people need. The Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced plans to lay-off 10,000 workers, one-quarter of HHS’s workforce. At the Social Security Administration, 7,000 staffers were cut and 6 out of 10 regional offices closed, led to a further worsening of services – call wait times worsening and website crashes. MORE »
Thousands of people die each year waiting for disability benefits and millions of Americans now face real barriers to accessing their earned benefits after paying in over their entire working lives. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a budget resolution in late February that proposes billions of dollars in cuts that would force major changes to Medicaid. The resolution instructs making $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid over the next decade. MORE »
Tens of millions of Americans rely on the public assistance programs — like Medicaid, SNAP, housing aid, and more — that Republican leaders are now threatening to gut. We must let them know that basic human needs are not fair game for getting money for tax cuts for billionaires. Instead, our priorities should be healthy and safe communities for all. MORE »
Aaron Carrillo, RESULTS’ Board Member, testified at the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on SNAP Cuts on March 25. The message throughout the hearing was clear. Cutting SNAP takes food off the plates of kids, families, seniors, and veterans. Cutting SNAP harms local economies. It forces families to choose between food, rent, and health care. MORE »
