** This Saturday, April 5, at 1 PM, join us and 50501 SF to say: Hands Off!
------------------------------------------------------------
50501 SF and Indivisible SF are joining forces for the Hands Off Mass Mobilization on Saturday, April 5. We are planning to rally at Civic Center Plaza ([link removed]) at 1 PM on Saturday, April 5. At this peaceful, nonviolent event, we’ll have speakers and tables from a variety of organizations. Hear from people affected by Trump and Musk’s attacks on the federal government while you connect with groups like ours that are resisting in various ways.
We need volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering to help out, please fill out this Google form ([link removed]) and join us at noon. We can train you on whatever you need and provide materials.

Regular attendee of the Saturday protests at Tesla? Read this!
------------------------------------------------------------
The organizer of the “People Over Profit” protests every Saturday at the Tesla dealership on Van Ness has canceled the one this Saturday and is directing attendees to join the Hands Off event at Civic Center Plaza instead.
Note that Hands Off starts one hour later, at 1 PM. It’s about half a mile down the hill from the dealership, or two stops on the Van Ness BRT (board at O’Farrell, get off at McAllister).
The next Tesla protest will be next Saturday, April 12. There’s also the federal employees’ protest at Tesla on Mondays; the next one of those will be this coming Monday, April 7.

Feel like getting Saturday started early? Come to Ocean Beach at 10 AM to say Hands Off!
------------------------------------------------------------
Brad Newsham and Travis Van Brasch have been doing human banners going at least as far back as 2017. In a human banner, volunteers gather on Ocean Beach to spell out a message. That message is then photographed from the air, producing an indelible image sending a vital message.
This Saturday, Brad and Travis are organizing a special human banner to say Hands Off! The event is in the morning to provide participants time to hop on a 5-Fulton or 31-Balboa to get to Civic Center Plaza in time to attend the rally.
Sign up here ([link removed]) and be on the beach by 10 AM.

We won! The Wisconsin judicial election.
------------------------------------------------------------
Last night, we handed a resounding, and well-earned, kick to the rear of Musk as he tried to buy the Wisconsin judicial election. Liberal candidate Susan Crawford won the election ([link removed]) , maintaining a liberal majority on the state supreme court. This victory is critical for maintaining a fair electoral map, protecting abortion rights, and so much more. Thank you to those who spread the word and volunteered to GOTV in this election.
It’s important to celebrate every win as we fight an uphill battle for justice. So take a minute today to celebrate, rest, and get ready for the next fight and the next one!

Dem Senators doing stuff: Sen. Cory Booker spoke out against the Trump Administration for more than 25 hours straight. Our senators joined him.
------------------------------------------------------------
Spring is here, and we may finally be seeing signs of Democratic Congressmembers growing spines. Yesterday, we saw Sen. Cory Booker giving a marathon floor speech ([link removed]) for 25 hours and 5 minutes. Senator Booker’s extended speech served to hold up Senate business and blockade Trump’s agenda. It’s clear that our Senators are hearing the outrage of constituents for their overall weak leadership so far. Senator Booker’s speech and his colleagues’ participation are a great start—we’d love to see more of this.
Both of our senators, Sen. Alex Padilla and Sen. Adam Schiff, helped out by asking questions—allowing Sen. Booker to rest his voice while continuing to hold the floor.
Senator Schiff has also announced a hold ([link removed]) on the nomination of Edward Martin for US Attorney for DC, citing his corrupt conduct.
These are the actions our Senators should be taking: speaking out for the people they represent, and using all the powers and procedures available to them to fight for their constituents. We’d love to see both Senator Padilla and Senator Schiff doing more things like this to obstruct the Trump/MAGA agenda.
Call your Senators and tell them: ([link removed]) thank you and do more to fight for us!

Help get money out of California politics with SB 42, the California Fair Elections Act
------------------------------------------------------------
In 2019, California passed the DISCLOSE Act to help counter the dark money unleashed after the Citizens United ruling. The California Clean Money Campaign ([link removed]) is continuing the work with more State Bills that would enable everyday-citizen candidates for office to win against candidates propped up by big money funders.
Currently, public financing of campaigns is banned in California—hence the reliance of campaigns on either small-dollar fundraising (all those fundraising texts you’ve come to loathe) or big corporate and billionaire donors.
The California Fair Elections Act, SB 42 ([link removed]) , is the next big step toward making elections about ideas, not money. SB 42 would put a measure on the November 2026 ballot to let voters decide whether to repeal the ban on public financing of campaigns. That way, local governments and the state itself could amplify the voices of everyday voters and ensure elections are won, not bought.
This bill won’t, itself, make public financing happen. There are multiple steps toward tearing down the roadblocks in state law. Passing this bill is the first, and passing the ballot measure follows after—and only then can we begin campaigning for the City and the state to finally make public campaign financing a reality. We can only get there after we take this first step.
SB 42 was heard in committee yesterday—which is when we’re writing this, so we don’t know yet what the committees did, if anything. You can read about the bill here ([link removed]) and find out more about how you can get involved.
Call your State Senator, Sen. Scott Wiener ([link removed]) , to tell him to vote “yes” on SB 42.

Your local right and duty: join the San Francisco Civil Grand Jury!
------------------------------------------------------------
You have the right and power to investigate and improve your local government. One key way to do that is by joining your county’s Civil Grand Jury.
Every year, each of California’s fifty-eight counties convenes a Civil Grand Jury made up of residents of that county. The members of the Jury collectively decide which aspects of local government to investigate. They then interview local government officials, read through documents and reports to reach a conclusion about how well that aspect of government is performing, publish their results, and present them to the local government.
State law vests the Civil Grand Jury with significant power to affect local government. Last year’s Grand Jury issued reports ([link removed]) about illegal fireworks in the City, the inadequacy of our sewer system to handle our changing climate, and more.
If you live in the City and County of San Francisco, are a U.S. citizen eighteen years of age or older, and can devote ten hours a week to the Civil Grand Jury, YOU can apply to participate. Applications are open until Friday, May 2 for the time period of July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
If you’re not sure whether serving on the Civil Grand Jury is for you, you can learn more from our blog post ([link removed]) !
