Dear John,
The devastating earthquake in Myanmar has left thousands of people homeless and in urgent need of aid. We are urgently asking for donations to support our emergency response efforts to help keep people safe and healthy during this crisis.
On March 28, 2025, Myanmar was struck by two catastrophic earthquakes. The first, a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake, struck near Mandalay, destroying homes, hospitals, and critical infrastructure.
This disaster has further devastated communities already struggling with ongoing conflict, displacement, and poverty. Hospitals and clinics, already under strain due to supply shortages, are overwhelmed with injured survivors.
Many families who were already displaced due to conflict have now lost what stability they had, and more people have lost their homes as a result of the earthquake. Without urgent support, many people face worsening health risks due to a lack of food, clean water, and basic medical care.
While long-term solutions are essential, our immediate priority is to provide life-saving aid, ensuring people have access to emergency medical support, food, and shelter. We must act now to protect the health and safety of those at risk.
Please give whatever you can today and help communities keep people safe and healthy at this critical time! [[link removed]]
Health Poverty Action has worked in Myanmar since 1994. Our team in the country has assessed the situation and is responding with urgent relief efforts.
We are sending a mobile medical team to Mandalay, equipped with emergency and medical supplies. We are also providing temporary shelters, food, and water to families in affected communities who have lost their homes.
We urgently need your support to mobilise these resources. Our team needs to support 1,000 families currently sleeping on the streets.
£10 could pay for rice for a family for a week. £17 could pay for a tarpaulin to help a family shelter. £37 could enable a family to buy basic food items for a month.
Please give whatever you can today and help keep people in affected communities in Myanmar safe.
Warm regards,
Ella Ronan,
Communications Assistant
