I just left the Senate floor after watching my good friend Cory Booker make history. After holding the floor for 25 hours and 5 minutes, Cory broke Senator Strom Thurmond’s record for longest filibuster which he set in 1957 trying to block the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Cory didn’t just read the phone book -- he spent those hours speaking about the crisis of our times, the abuses of President Trump and his cabinet, and how we must overcome this moment.
This isn’t about optics or setting records. Cory told real stories about real people -- stories of families struggling under Donald Trump’s extremist policies. He shined a light on the lives upended by reckless cuts to healthcare, education, and essential programs. And Senate Democrats were there with him, joining him on the floor and supporting his historic effort -- and this broader fight.
These aren’t partisan talking points. These are Americans suffering so this administration can hand out more tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk.
We’re ramping up the opposition. We’re holding the line. But we need you with us.
