The case is
Medina v. Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic (PPSAT). It boils down to this:
South Carolina wants to exclude Planned Parenthood health centers from the state's Medicaid program, which violates Medicaid patients' right to get care at their provider of choice, Planned Parenthood.
The U.S. Supreme Court will decide if patients can sue in federal court to protect that right. The justices will hear arguments and likely make a decision before the end of June.
South Carolina's efforts are the latest in a long line of targeted attacks on Planned Parenthood and Medicaid. If our opponents win this case, it could be devastating: We expect lawmakers in other states to take similar actions to cut patients off from care.
Millions of people across the country rely on Medicaid for health care, and many choose to get that care from Planned Parenthood health centers. These attacks will jeopardize life-saving access to STI testing and treatments, cancer screenings, birth control, and other essential care.
