Celebrating the Life of Wyoming Statesman Alan K. Simpson
NL-Mar 31
*"If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don’t have integrity, nothing else matters.” - "*"Former Wyoming U.S. Senator Alan Simpson, 1931-2025"
At 6 '7, U.S. Senator Simpson cast a tall shadow. As Wyomingites share stories, and celebrate his extraordinary life of service, we recognize his exceptional values, capability, loyalty, faith, common sense and commitment. Along with his wife Ann and his amazing family, Senator Simpson found innumerable ways to make this world a better place.
The Senator’s talent for bringing humility through humor to himself and others rarely wavered. Remembrances recounted during each of the celebration of life services held in his honor have depicted Senator Simpson’s special ability to bring candor, wit, and capability to crucial (tense) crossroad situations.
Governor Gordon, when remembering Senator Simpson during Saturday’s memorial service at the University of Wyoming, said, “I am overwhelmed to be here honoring a man I admired, sometimes argued with, and always venerated. I miss him so much as so many of us do. I miss his mentoring calls, his advice, and especially his humor. He had a tremendous way of making you see the humor in any situation and then relate a story from his experience.”
“Along the way, Al showed his ability to lead others to thoughtful and constructive solutions even after he was out of office. Take the National Commission of Fiscal Responsibility and Reform for example. The recommendations were sensible, fair, and would have made a difference if Congress had acted on them” said Governor Gordon, “And he did it with humor — remember *the Gangnam style video [ [link removed] ]?*”
