TAKE FIVE | APRIL 1, 2025
|
Friend,
The Trump administration continues to harm workers and their communities with every stroke of a pen. Just last week Trump ordered that hundreds of thousands of federal workers be stripped of their collective bargaining rights—one of the largest attacks on labor yet and a direct threat to the power of democracy in action. His eagerness to target the people who take care of our veterans, protect our water, deliver our medicine, and produce life-saving research should be taken as a warning to all workers. An injury to one, is an injury to all.
|
This warning should also awaken your resolve. The strength of our collective power is exactly why this administration seeks to destroy workers' rights and dismantle democracy piece by piece. But workers don’t shrink away from bullies, bad bosses, or billionaire weirdos. We double down.
Plug into action to defend workers and celebrate everyday victories with the latest edition of Take Five below.

🌹 The Chicago Federation of Labor and Chicago Jobs with Justice have been holding powerful Workers Rights’ Board Hearings for federal workers. On March 10, they hosted healthcare workers and veterans to discuss the impacts of DOGE cuts to Veteran Affairs. Watch here.

🌸 DC Jobs with Justice continues to hold it down amidst the chaos. In addition to supporting federal workers facing uncertainty and job loss in the DMV, they’re rallying to defend life-saving policies for DC residents like TOPA. The Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, or TOPA, is a DC law that preserves affordable housing, prevents displacement, and gives tenants an unparalleled opportunity to negotiate better living conditions or even become homeowners. TOPA is currently on the chopping block, but they’re fighting back!

Last week we were in Atlanta, GA launching a hub for reimagining an economic path to democracy through the lens of southern workers at Clark Atlanta University. The Labor Institute for Advancing Black Strategists, a first-of-its-kind labor center at a Historically Black College and University, will cultivate a national network of leaders through comprehensive research, seminars, internships, and field experiences that are centered on southern worker organizing, especially among Black workers. You can sign up to receive updates on the labor institute and more here.
