John,
Almost 100 days in, the current president has kept his promises to go after his enemies, but not in order to help Americans. President Donald Trump and his effective co-president, Elon Musk, have attacked the foundations of opportunity—public education, healthcare, collective bargaining and Social Security. Rather than making things better, they’re trying to decimate everything we have fought to build—funding for the public schools, healthcare and Social Security our families rely on, and now, the very voice collective bargaining provides for working people.
This Saturday, April 5, AFT members—educators, healthcare professionals and public service workers—are joining thousands of people in a nationwide day of action to say: Hands off our Social Security. Hands off our public schools. Hands off our Medicare. Hands off our jobs.

Billionaires like Musk are spreading lies to justify their attacks. When Musk called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time,” he wasn’t just wrong—he was revealing the contempt these ultra-rich elites have for programs that support working people.
The truth is, Social Security is a lifeline that millions of Americans have paid into and earned. But even while they try to dismantle it, billionaires like Musk and Trump will still walk away with more in benefits than they ever contributed.
They’re also attacking public education. Why abolish the department responsible for delivering $100 billion for services and supports for children, about $1 in every $9 that schools in this country receive?
And what will happen to rural hospitals, with the billions of cuts to Medicaid?
Will you join us in the streets for a nationwide day of peaceful protest on April 5? This will be the largest single day of action since Trump was sworn in for a second term. You won’t want to miss it.
This administration is coming for anyone who believes in a country where people should be able to retire with dignity, where public services work and where democracy means more than billionaires pulling the strings.
Whether you care about education, healthcare, jobs, retirement, democracy or basic dignity, you have a stake in this fight. And together, we have to show this administration that fight.
RSVP now to join a local Hands Off day of action event!
In unity,
Randi Weingarten
AFT President
