FEATURED NEWS

The Doctors in Detention series from the The Guardian and Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) looks at how Gaza's healthcare workers have faced an unprecedented onslaught since the start of the conflict, with hundreds killed, tortured, or detained by Israeli forces.

This investigation was a collaboration between The Guardian and ARIJ, reporting partners who first met at an HU convening and have since collaborated on multiple projects. Together, they have reported on critical stories in the Middle East and North Africa that are available to both Arabic and English-speaking audiences.

We are grateful for the courage and sensitivity evidenced in this deeply researched investigation, in partnership with Palestinian journalists.

We stand with our partners at Global Labor Justice, The Freedom Fund, SeaChoice, and more in urging the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to take responsibility for their role in enabling instances of exploitation. Read the full open letter now.

On International Women’s Day 2025, Global Migrant Workers Network hosted a webinar to urge governments to take bold feminist action to uphold the rights and dignity of migrant workers by listening to the women leading the fight for fair labor conditions. Watch "Women on the Move: Gender, Rights, and Migration," a powerful discussion featuring an all-woman panel of migrant worker leaders and advocates.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HU

Members of HU's Forced Labor & Human Trafficking team recently attended the North America Seafood Expo. Notably, the shrimp research panel presented their findings on how purchasing practices drive the exploitation of workers within the shrimp industry. Our partner Global Labor Justice hosted a campaign protest to advocate for Wi-Fi on distant-water fishing vessels, which captured industry attention.
