Dear SPUC supporter,
If you have not yet signed SPUC's major petition calling for greater funding of hospice care in this country, this is your final chance! Plans are in place for us to present our petition to the Prime Minister at Downing Street very soon and the petition will close on Friday 11th April.
If you have ordered petition postcards to distribute at church or to family and friends, please ensure these are returned to SPUC HQ by Friday 11th April at the latest.
With MPs set to vote on the Assisted Suicide Bill in just a matter of weeks, it is crucial that we continue to highlight the gross underfunding of our country's hospices. Palliative care for all who need it is undeniably the way forward, not assisted suicide.
Dr. Dominic Whitehouse is a palliative care consultant, and he has the following to say about the situation:
"I am a palliative care consultant working in my local hospice. I am only too aware of the desperate situation of many hospices, where lack of funding means they are unable to deliver the level of care needed by the local community.
"I want to give my dying patients the very best care available, so that they can have a peaceful and dignified death."
You can sign our petition calling on the Prime Minister to commit to long-term reform of hospice funding here:
