We hope everyone is staying safe during this ongoing health emergency.Team Cisneros has been working remotely -- and we encourage all those who are able to practice social distancing. During this time, we have canceled all in-person fundraising for the time being, making grassroots online outreach and fundraising even more critical than before. Gil and the rest of the team will keep working for a healthier and safer CA-39. We hope you stay strong with us in this fight.
Today, I’m wearing orange.
When fifteen-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in Chicago, just one week after she performed at President Obama’s second inaugural parade, her friends organized and wore orange in her honor. Today, in her honor, we wear orange nationwide to commemorate her memory and the memory of the thousands of people we lose to gun violence each year.
Every day in this country, we lose over 100 people to gun violence. Indeed, firearms are a leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the United States. And make no mistake, John -- bought and paid for politicians with ties to the NRA and gun lobby contribute to those deaths.
That’s why I’m proud to have the endorsement of Everytown For Gun Safety, a national gun violence prevention organization dedicated to ensuring that the needless deaths of people like Hadiya don’t happen again.
John, we need Congress to act on bold gun safety reforms now, because we can't wait for another tragedy.
We need universal background checks. We need to ban bump stocks. We need to pass “red flag” laws to ensure guns don’t fall into the wrong hands. We need to close the “boyfriend loophole” that increases the rates of domestic violence in our country.
And I am committed to this mission.
I am grateful to have Everytown by our side as we fight for common-sense gun reform. And I’m grateful to have you by our side as well.
Thank you,
-- Gil
