Since our founding in 2009, Open Primaries has helped shape
every successful open primary campaign in the country.
From semi-open primaries in
Washington DC, Maine, Colorado and now hopefully New Mexico to nonpartisan primaries in California,
Alaska and St. Louis. We’ve defeated closed primary efforts in
Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, and Utah and popularized the conception
of letting “All Voters Vote!”
This year: budding
campaigns in Oklahoma, New York, Pennsylvania and beyond, court
challenges in multiple states (why do 'we the people' fund private
elections for private organizations?), informational pickets on
primary day so that millions of Americans learn the extent to which
independents are shut out of the process, and growing LetUsVote, a
national community of independent voters to start amplifying the
voices of the ‘silent majority. ’
We’re building national organizing, education and
litigation strategies which all need resources and
attention.
All across the country inspired
coalitions of Democrats, Republicans and independents are working
together to enact open and nonpartisan primaries over the next 2
years, editorial support and endorsements are growing and the level of
creativity is through the roof!
We can’t think of something more
needed in a time when both parties move further and further away from
the needs of the American people.
