Happy March and happy Spring from all of us at Peace Over Violence! We find ourselves in the middle of two key months for us in our work - February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention and April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). March also includes several important month and days of acknowledgement for POV. Keep reading and see what we have been up to this past month - and make sure to stay tuned for more communications surrounding SAAM and DENIM DAY - coming up quickly next month on 4/30!
** Women’s History Month & International Women’s Day
------------------------------------------------------------
** Women have always been at the forefront of the movement to end violence.
------------------------------------------------------------
From the earliest advocates who built crisis hotlines and shelters to the survivors who bravely tell their stories, women have led the charge for safety, justice, and healing in their communities. At POV, we are recognizing Women’s History Month as an opportunity to honor the women—past and present—who have fought to break cycles of violence, uplift survivors, and create a future rooted in equity and mutual care.
On March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day and the leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment of women throughout history in their pursuit of a world free from violence. We continue to elevate women’s stories, struggles, and triumphs all year long.
** Transgender Day of Visibility
------------------------------------------------------------
Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31) is a time to celebrate trans and nonbinary people while also recognizing the barriers they continue to face—especially when it comes to safety, justice, and systemic support. Trans survivors experience disproportionately high rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, and hate-based violence, yet too often face discrimination when seeking services.
At Peace Over Violence, we affirm that all survivors deserve care, safety, and dignity. This Trans Day of Visibility, we recommit to supporting trans survivors and advocating for systems that truly protect everyone, regardless of gender identity. Visibility matters—but so does action. Let’s work toward a world where trans survivors are seen, heard, and supported.
** National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
------------------------------------------------------------
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence (March 15) is a reminder that the fight to end violence starts early. Bullying isn’t just “kids being kids”—it’s a learned behavior that can have lasting impacts, from emotional trauma to cycles of violence that continue into adulthood.
At Peace Over Violence, we believe in early intervention, education, and community-based solutions to break these cycles before they start. One way to get your child involved early is through programs like our Youth Over Violence Summer Leadership Institute (see more below!), where we teach students about boundaries, communication, healthy relationship-building, and leading with nonviolence in their communities.

** Denim Day 2025 April 30th!
------------------------------------------------------------
Denim Day is next month! This year, we encourage you to "Use Your Voice" to speak out in support of survivors of sexual assault, amplifying stories, experiences, and the collective need for change. Denim Day calls for all of us to be vocal in our solidarity, whether by sharing personal stories, advocating for policies that protect survivors, holding space for those who have been affected, or wearing your denim with purpose. We will not remain silent. Use Your Voice and join us on 4/30/25 for our 26th annual Denim Day. Our website and shop are fully updated and ready for you to gear up for Denim Day in your community!

** TDV Youth Prevention Conference
------------------------------------------------------------
Last month we held a Teen Dating Violence Youth Prevention Conference in honor of Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Our youth and community gathered to empower youth and share awareness and resources around preventing teen dating violence and healthy relationship building. The conference was held at the Boyle Heights Technology YouthSource Center and hosted participants from all over Los Angeles and created space to build community, learned helpful tips, and walked away with knowledge and peer support to make positive change in our communities.

** Welcome New Counselor Advocates!
------------------------------------------------------------
Peace Over Violence has concluded our Winter 2025 Counselor Advocate Training; congratulations to all who completed the extensive 82-hour training! We had a total of 14 volunteers, 1 professional development, 1 intern, and 1 staff member who committed to immersing themselves in learning various topics related to intimate partner violence and connecting with community resources such as district attorneys, sexual assault nurse examiners, and case managers. Each counselor advocate also participated in role-play scenarios, which provided them with hands-on training for real hotline and accompaniment experiences to prepare for the meaningful work they are about to embark on.
Without our volunteers, we would be unable to meet the needs for the 24/7 Los Angeles Rape and Battery Hotline and SART Accompaniments and our community requests. Our advocates and volunteers provide support to survivors and become beacons of hope in our community. If you are interested in supporting survivors and donating your time, please consider one of our many volunteer opportunities. We are currently recruiting for our Spring 2025 Counselor Advocate training. For more information, contact

** Application deadline is approaching!
------------------------------------------------------------
The Youth Over Violence Leadership Institute is for youth who are committed to building and making powerful social change through awareness, advocacy and violence prevention strategies. The program empowers youth between the ages of 14-19 by educating them on healthy relationships, promoting awareness of teen dating violence, and enhancing community organizing skills. Upon successful completion of this training, youth leaders will go back to their school to implement campus-based violence prevention clubs, Students Together Organizing Peace (STOP club), become mentors to other students and identify and cultivate the next generation of leaders. POV’s Youth Institute utilizes a combination of educational sessions, trauma-informed activities and education, field trips, and internship projects.

Deadline: Friday, April 25
Institute begins Tuesday, June 17
