State of the Nation: Make New Zealand First Again

New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters delivered the Party’s State of the Nation speech with all the dedication and fortitude we have come to expect. His unquestionable experience and wit were on full display to the Christchurch crowd of over 800 as he lambasted protesters, blasted the previous Labour government, and highlighted New Zealand First's ongoing work.

Winston continued to wage the war on woke, addressing the insidious plague of four-flushing leftism trying to creep through the very essence of our society. New Zealand First will not let this go unchecked, we are delivering commonsense and pragmatic policy that addresses real world issues, instead of what Shane Jones would call ‘ideological bum-fluff’.

“We are waging War on Woke - Paris Accord, DEI, RSE, ESG, puberty blockers, separatism. Long live commonsense.” – Winston Peters

Minister for Rail on the replacement ferries

Two new rail ferries have been announced by the Minister for Rail and will begin operating in 2029 between the North and South Island.

After the $3.1 billion budget blow-out by the previous Labour government, the newly announced replacement ships and infrastructure will come at a significantly reduced cost to the tax payer.

To ensure further savings, the marine infrastructure in Wellington will be repurposed, with only the Picton infrastructure requiring replacement.

Growing Regional New Zealand

Our Regional Development Minister is back on the road with the latest Regional Growth Summits. Covering Canterbury, the Chathams, Wairarapa, Kapiti and Otago, Shane and New Zealand First continue to champion the revitalisation and economic prosperity of our regions.

Hear from the man himself: Shane Jones: The roadshow of growth is underway <[link removed]>

Sentencing reform welcomed

The Government continues to fulfil our promise to crack down on crime and ensure victims remain at the heart of the justice system. Legislation has just been passed to ensure harsher sentencing for crimes.

Criminal justice system reform includes changes such as:

- Encouraging cumulative sentencing for offences committed while on bail, in custody, or on parole
- Capping sentence discounts and preventing repeat discounts
- Implementing a sliding scale for early guilty pleas with a maximum sentence discount of 25 per cent

Two additional aggravating factors have also been included in sentencing reform:

- Adults who exploit children and young people by aiding or abetting them to offend;
- Offenders who glorify their criminal activities by livestreaming or posting them online.

Casey Costello: We want to make sure that those who do the crime will pay the penalty <[link removed]>

When it comes to law and order, New Zealand First has always been seriously committed to tougher sentencing, and a justice system that keeps the victim at the forefront. So when we hear the garbage being spouted from the Greens about abolishing the police, we are going to call it out.

In the words of our leader Winston Peters… “The Greens wanting to defund the Police proves they are a bunch of ideologically driven anarchist losers”.

New Member’s Bill on conscience votes

A new Member’s Bill was submitted by New Zealand First to the ballot box last week, yet another example of our party championing the democratic rights of Kiwis.

The “Conscience Acts Referendums Bill” will ensure that any legislation deemed a conscience issue will go to a public referendum following the scrutiny process in parliament.

“Temporarily empowered politicians should not be the ones making the final decision on issues that change the social fabric of New Zealand – it should be made by every New Zealander.” – Winston Peters
