John
We received great news late last week that Oklahoma will host two events in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games—softball and canoe slalom. I have quietly worked behind the scenes for years to help land the Olympics in our great state. The final announcement is a huge win for Oklahoma since only a handful of US states have ever hosted Summer Olympic Games. This will be a major economic boost and a global opportunity to show off our hospitality.
This week, Senate Republicans are laser focused on the budget resolution—this is the first step to block the massive tax increase next January that Democrats in the Senate are fighting to keep. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I have worked on tax policy for years to prepare for this fight. I have input from Oklahoma families, nonprofits, small companies, large manufacturers, energy producers, and all sizes of agricultural businesses. Hopefully, we get enough votes to start the first step as soon as Wednesday, which would set up a potential all-night "vote-a-rama" late this week. It has a fun name, but it is not a fun process.
I'll have more information on social media on all the pieces of the bill in the days ahead. The good news is that Republicans are taking decisive action now to avoid catastrophic tax hikes in January 2026.
Please continue to pray for the nation and to stay engaged in the local elections underway in our state.
In God We Trust,
James Lankford
