John,
We find ourselves—like our ancestors many times before this—on the front lines in the battle for democracy. Our ability to meet this moment relies on deepening our bonds, showing up, and speaking out. Trump 2.0 requires Solidarity 2.0.
On Thursday, March 27th, the Trump administration issued yet another executive order to stop federal employees from organizing and collectively bargaining. Collective bargaining, at its best, is a system by which working people and their communities can exercise collective action in a way that directly confronts corporate greed and reclaims their power. It’s yet another blow in this administration’s ongoing attempts to fully dismantle our democracy, attack worker leaders, and install an oligarchy led by Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
I want to remind you that workers have always been an unyielding force in the face of authoritarian regimes. Whether federal civil servants or farm workers or teachers or delivery drivers, our coworkers embody resiliency and flex solidarity. Every. Damn. Day.
In solidarity with workers fighting back, we have a simple but important call to action for long time partners and new allies. Since 1987, over 100,000 individuals have taken the “Jobs With Justice Pledge”. Today, we’re asking you to do the same.
Commit to showing up at least five times this year for someone else’s fight. So that together we can:
-
Challenge corporate greed from all angles.
-
Protect the vital public services that our communities need and the jobs of the people that deliver those services.
-
Defend our institutions that work to improve working conditions, wages, and dignified retirement.
-
Protect our immigrant coworkers from unjust workplace raids and inhumane deportation.
-
Support workers demanding a job with justice, the right to organize, and the freedom to collectively bargain for fair contracts.
