Right now, there are protests against police violence all over the US. After recent murders of Black people by police, people are speaking out and calling for justice. This is a critical moment in history, and there is a lot that goes into understanding how we got here. ASAN received several requests for an accessible resource on anti-Black police violence and its effect on our communities. So we worked with the American Association of People with Disabilities and Green Mountain Self Advocates to make our new resource, “What is Police Violence?”.

This booklet provides accessible information on topics including:

  • Anti-Black racism and the police
  • Police violence in the U.S.
  • Police violence and disability
  • What we can do about police violence
  • Resources to learn more

Police violence affects many people with disabilities, and it affects Black people with disabilities most of all. To some members of our community, this resource will be an accessible explanation of issues that they may not have considered before. But for many of our community members, police violence is an ever-present threat. It’s on all of us to change that. Whether you are looking to learn more about the issue or need help explaining it to others, we hope this resource can help.
