Yesterday, the Republican members of the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group voted against a measure to protect our citizens' right to wear masks in public as a protection from COVID-19.

This measure would have prevented employers from firing employees who want to wear masks. It would also have prevented companies from refusing service to customers wearing masks.

They voted "no."

It is appalling that Republicans have turned what everyone wants, a safe reopening of the economy, into a partisan issue. This was not a mandate that would require masks; it was a measure to protect those trying to protect themselves and their families. 

The same people who want you be able to protect yourself with a gun are unwilling to offer you the protections of a mask.

This should NOT be partisan. As Hillsborough County residents, we should be able to protect ourselves from COVID-19 by wearing a mask.

This is why we need new leadership. We need Representatives like Andrew, who will fight for good healthcare policies at the state and local levels. Republican politicians care more about the health of the economy than they do about the help of their constituents.
