MARCH 2025
|
Dear Friend,
Greetings!
I’m Ari Belathar, the new executive director of Corporate Accountability. One of the many reasons I am excited to step into this role is YOU. I believe we share a vision for the world as it could be -- where corporations answer to people and not the other way around. And I know we can make an enormous impact together.
No doubt -- that world seems far away right now. Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their cronies are running a regime of the brutes, for the billionaires and the corporations they head. They’re hurting ALL working people -- no matter where we live, what we look like, or what we believe in -- by raising prices, firing workers, and slashing protections. And they’re deliberately trying to divide us based on our races, backgrounds, and genders.
But as a young child growing up in a poor neighborhood in Mexico, I saw again and again how people coming together in action could make tangible improvements to our daily lives.
I’ve seen the ways organizing creates seemingly impossible change. So as I take the reins of this organization whose mission gets to the very heart of the crisis we’re in, I know we are part of changing the tide.
Corporate Accountability is meeting this moment with almost fifty years of experience in waging and winning campaigns that curb corporate abuse. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy or quick. But I am saying that waging people-powered corporate campaigns in this moment is one of the most effective ways that we can make a difference right now. We know how to strategically challenge corporations to have the greatest impact.
You’ll be hearing much more from me in the coming months. In the meantime, I hope you feel inspired by some of the ways you are helping to challenge corporate power in this moment.

Demanding the release of Mahmoud Khalil
|
On the evening of March 8, Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student at Columbia University and an activist against Israel’s genocide in Gaza, was arrested. Khalil’s arrest is another example of how the U.S. government is targeting Palestinian, Arab, and pro-Palestinian voices to systematically silence any criticism of Israel -- all by trampling on our First Amendment rights to free speech and free assembly. That’s why we’re joining our allies and human rights groups from around the U.S. to urge Congress to do everything they can to secure Khalil’s release as soon as possible. So will you take action and join the thousands of people who are demanding the same?

Getting trained to resist through Rise for Freedom
|
In this brutal political moment, we’re joining a large cohort of organizations across the country in launching a new training series to equip folks like you to challenge the Trump-Musk administration. It’s called Rise for Freedom, and there are weekly trainings that will be live online, and they’re designed to be done while gathering in-person with friends and community members. The trainings will cover topics like how to organize under creeping autocracy, how to talk to people you might disagree with, how to make political violence backfire, and more. So sign up to learn more and get your friends, family, and broader community involved.

BUILDING COMMUNITY WITH THE POP CORPS
|
At our March POP Corps meeting, we exposed how corporations and agencies like USAID are facilitating water privatization worldwide. The POP Corps unites people to: challenge corporate control of government, stand with communities harmed by corporate abuse, and mobilize networks for strategic action. Join the POP Corps today to get plugged into our network -- together we'll take action and build people power to stop corporate abuse! As a member, you'll be invited to our monthly action and community-building meetings. And members have an exclusive online channel to stay connected between meetings, so they're the first to know about urgent actions. It’s time to POP the corporate bubble and put people first.

Corporate Accountability stops transnational corporations from devastating democracy, trampling human rights, and destroying our planet. We are building a world rooted in justice where corporations answer to people, not the other way around -- a world where every person has access to clean water, healthy food, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to reach their full human potential.
