Folks, there’s been a lot of misleading and false information circulating about Social Security Administration (SSA) office closures here in Georgia, including the office in Gainesville. These claims have unnecessarily caused a great deal of stress and confusion among seniors and their loved ones in the Ninth District.
So, I’d like to set the record straight.
Several weeks ago, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) posted the information of five SSA offices in Georgia on its website, including square footage and annual lease costs, as part of its identification of potential savings. As you know, President Trump tasked DOGE to help make the federal government more efficient, which includes finding ways to reduce the size, scope, and cost of government.
Senator Warnock saw these line items on DOGE’s website and immediately announced that these five Georgia SSA offices would be permanently closed. In fact, he recently went so far as to claim on social media that “DOGE closed 5 Social Security offices in GA a couple weeks ago.”
This is 100% false.
Here are the facts:
- The Gainesville SSA Office is open and operating.
- DOGE refuted Senator Warnock’s baseless claims.Â
- DOGE removed the lease information of the five GA SSA offices from its website.
- The Social Security Administration confirmed the agency has not closed or announced the closure of any local field office.
Senator Warnock has peddled lies and fearmongered Georgia seniors long enough. Instead of proceeding with caution and confirming a shred of validity to his claims, he recklessly ran with potential lease savings identified by DOGE in order to score cheap political points.
Folks, the Left’s obsession with vilifying President Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE is out of control. Scaring Americans — in this case, seniors — to distort the Administration’s work to expose and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse is completely irresponsible.
Given DOGE and SSA’s recent confirmation that no field sites are closing in the Peach State, I urge Senator Warnock to abandon his deceitful crusade and apologize to Georgia seniors.
Please know that my team and I will continue monitoring this situation and providing timely, helpful information. Additionally, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the phenomenal case workers in my Gainesville District Office if you or a loved one ever need assistance navigating Social Security claims. I always encourage the Ninth to contact my office if they need help with a federal agency, and I remain committed to ensuring Northeast Georgians receive the federal services they deserve.
