Standing Up Against Gender-Based Violence: Women’s safety is also at the forefront of my work. At the rally against gender-based violence, we stood in solidarity with survivors and called for stronger protections. Every woman deserves to live without fear of violence, and I’m committed to electing women and candidates that represent those values, and advancing comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of gender-based violence while providing the support survivors need. This includes working on legislation that enhances resources for survivors and holding perpetrators accountable.
Legislation for a More Equitable NYC: I am proud of the budgetary and legislative efforts my colleagues and I have been pushing forward. This month, I’ve continued my work on critical bills that will have a lasting impact on women’s lives:
The Latino Curriculum, which aims to incorporate Latino history and culture into NYC schools, is a necessary step to ensure young women of color see themselves represented and celebrated in the classroom.
The Menstrual Equity Bill, which takes unsafe toxic chemicals out of menstrual products, will improve health outcomes for all women and ensure that no woman’s health is put at risk by something as essential as menstrual care.
We've also passed important legislation, like the NYC Abortion Rights Act, the Universal Childcare Package, and the Support Survivors Package—all part of our ongoing effort to improve the quality of life for women and gender non-conforming individuals across the city.
Our Fight Continues: Women's History Month is just one moment in the year to celebrate how far we've come and acknowledge how much further we need to go. For me, the fight for women’s rights and equality is every day. Whether it's fighting for pay equity, combating gender-based violence, or ensuring access to reproductive healthcare and educational equity, I am committed to this work because I know our future depends on it.
I want to thank you, our supporters, for standing with me and the women of NYC in this fight. Your support allows me to continue pushing for change that uplifts all women—especially those who have been marginalized for far too long.
Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible and build a city that is fairer, safer, and more just for every daughter, sister, mother, aunt - woman.
