Celebrating World Water Day and Building Safer Communities in Somalia
March 22 was World Water Day! Thanks to generous humanitarians like you, Americares partnered with a local nonprofit in Somalia to support construction of 20 latrines in the village of Al-Xayat, providing 300 people with safe, private and hygienic facilities. For Amina, a mother of six, the new latrines offer peace of mind, as her children no longer face the dangers of having to relieve themselves outside in the bush – risks that include exposure to wildlife and disease. “These latrines are not just toilets,” Amina says. “They are lifesavers, especially for our girls, who now feel safe and protected.” |
