John: right now, people in our country are angry – and they should be.
For generations, Black and brown people have been promised equal opportunity in America. They've been promised respect, humanity and justice. But far too often, they have seen the opposite.
The tragic deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor at the hands of police officers are two horrific examples of the countless injustices that Black Americans face every day – and two of the many painful reminders of the deep-rooted racism and inequality that persists in our country.
Justice for our Black brothers and sisters is long overdue. George Floyd's life matters. Breonna Taylor's life matters. Black. Lives. Matter. And it's time for our country to act like it.
In the face of a president who chooses to be silent whenever he isn't personally stoking the flames of racism and hatred, it is up to each and every one of us to push for the change America so desperately needs. There is no other option.
I know that we are deeply unfortunate to have this president at this moment. But our democracy provides the sacred right to demand better from our government – to demand justice. I am proud to stand with the hundreds of members of our community who have peacefully exercised that right.
Now, we all must vigorously and loudly speak out to address our country's systemic racism while peacefully and lovingly respecting the safety of our neighbors and communities. One of the best ways you can do that today is by supporting the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund with a donation today, and I’m asking you to step forward now to take a stand for racial justice and help make a lasting difference.
