[Supporting Transgender People is Suicide Prevention]

At the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we know that supporting transgender people is suicide prevention. In honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, which takes place each year on March 31, we want to shed light on important research, advocacy efforts, education programs, and stories regarding mental health and suicide prevention among trans people.

- Learn more about AFSP-funded LGBTQ+ research studies by leading scientific researchers like [Dr. Russell Toomey]([link removed]), whose findings you can read about in his blog article ["Thriving With Pride: Three Ways to Support LGBTQ+ Youth and Protect Against Suicidal Behavior,"]([link removed]) and [Dr. Karen Bluth]([link removed]), whose study is highlighted in our [Research Roundup]([link removed]).

- Educate yourself and others on policies that affect transgender people by visiting our ["LGBTQ+ Individuals & Populations" page]([link removed]).

- Learn how you can help prevent suicide among LGBTQ+ people by participating in AFSP's education program [Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention in the LGBTQ+ Community]([link removed]). You can find Talk Saves Lives events through your local chapter by visiting our [Program Calendar]([link removed]).

- Read [heartfelt stories]([link removed]) written by members of AFSP's LGBTQ+ community, including our incredible volunteers [Willow Danielle]([link removed]), who wrote about growing up in rural Arkansas as a transgender woman, and [Josie Jesse]([link removed]), who wrote about how showing respect and love to transgender people can be lifesaving.

Today and every day, AFSP is committed to supporting the mental health of transgender individuals.

These lifesaving resources are all made possible by you, our AFSP community. Your ongoing support helps us to continue our mission of saving lives, and working with diverse communities to develop culturally relevant mental health and suicide prevention resources.
