⬇️ What’s covered in this newsletter: The alarming arrest of a midwife in Texas; marking 15 years of Trans Day of Visibility; a fact check on Trump’s misleading IVF executive order; tickets on sale now for Voices of Courage with John Oliver on May 12, and more.
As we face the ongoing threats of a Trump administration hostile to immigrants, abortion access, and bodily autonomy—alongside state leaders intent on restricting health care—we remain steadfast in our fight for safe, compassionate care for all people.
Our communities thrive when they can rely on holistic models of care, which is why we are in solidarity with caregivers like midwives, doulas, nurses, and doctors who continue to serve their patients through it all. We will keep showing up for one another and caring for our communities, no matter what. |

A midwife in Texas and her team members were arrested in March for allegedly providing abortion care in their communities. PRH Board Chair Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi spoke to The Nation calling this a clear, targeted attack on abortion healthcare workers, patients, as well as immigrant communities. |
"Community healthcare workers—from midwives, to doulas, to nurses—are critical to patients in Texas, especially under these draconian abortion bans, and relied on by thousands and thousands of people to deliver safe reproductive care.”
- Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi, Texas Ob/Gyn, PRH Board Chair |

Midwife and Colleague Targeted in Texas
Lupe M. Rodríguez, Executive Director of National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, Jamarah Amani, Executive Director of Southern Birth Justice Network, and Dr. Jamila Perritt, President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health called this "an attack on immigrant communities, who already have a hard time accessing the care they need because of harmful abortion bans and the increased risk of criminalization they face based on their immigration status."

PRH President & CEO Dr. Jamila Perritt told Mother Jones that President Trump’s February executive order on in vitro fertilization “does not seem to have any meaningful impact on access to fertility treatments.” The order’s intentionally gendered language raises concerns that it will deepen discrimination in fertility care access, effectively deciding who is deemed worthy of care.

March 31, 2025, marks 15 years of Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV) — a day to honor the strength, brilliance, beauty and joy of trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive people everywhere.
PRH Communications Coordinator Mani Vinson, MHSA, reflects on the importance of celebrating the creativity and resilience of trans people while acknowledging the escalating attacks to strip the trans community of their right to health care, dignity, autonomy, and joy. With anti-trans legislation and disinformation on the rise, the fight for trans lives remains deeply connected to broader struggles for racial, reproductive, and economic justice. |

Issue Brief on Dobbs’ Erosion of the Health Care Workforce
|
As we near the three-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, our issue brief — created in partnership with the National Partnership for Women and Families — remains a timely resource documenting the harms to both providers and patients as they navigate the climate of fear, confusion, and the continuously shifting legal landscape for abortion access.
Why this matters: We are losing clinicians fast. People are leaving states with abortion bans. Medical students and residents choose not to train or practice in places where they can't provide evidence-based care. Dobbs and dangerous abortion bans are exacerbating what was already an urgent, dire shortage of providers. |
For this year’s Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, Ms. Magazine talked to providers across the U.S. about what they want their communities to know and what keeps them motivated to continue the work at a time when attacks on abortion and health care workers are increasing.
Featured abortion providers include: Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, CEO of Power to Decide and practicing OB-GYN; Dr. Jamila Perritt, OB-GYN in Washington, D.C., and President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health; and Dr. Bhavik Kumar, medical director for primary and trans care at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and former PRH Board Member. |
"When I care for people who need abortions, love is all I feel.”
- Dr. Jamila Perritt, PRH President & CEO |
