Dear John,
It’s Trans Day of Visibility, a day to celebrate transgender and gender nonconforming people, and to raise awareness of their experiences and contributions.
At VoteRiders, we know that #TransPeopleVote — but in places where ID is required to vote, and a person’s gender on their ID may not match their identity or presentation, the voting experience can be difficult and disempowering.
That’s why we work with trans voters year-round to ensure that their IDs match their name and gender. It’s important not just for voting, but also for making people feel more confident and secure in many aspects of their lives.
Skyler’s story is just one example of how our ID work helps trans voters. [[link removed]] For years, Skyler had to use an ID that didn’t reflect his identity. Although he had legally changed his name and gender marker years before, bureaucratic barriers and transphobia kept him from updating his state ID, and that kept him from accessing financial services, updating his health insurance, and voting.
Skyler teamed up with VoteRiders’ Pennsylvania State Director, Krystle, who arranged to meet him at the PennDOT office, and stayed with him until he got his ID and registered to vote.
“I’m just very grateful that VoteRiders helped me,” Skyler said. “Having this ID lifted a lot of weight off of me.”

Especially now, as trans rights are under attack, we know that an important element in the fight is ensuring that all trans voters can participate in our democracy without fear.
You can help by sharing our resources for all trans people who need accurate information and free help getting an ID. >> [link removed]
