March 2025
Kadra Abdinasir
Associate Director of Policy
Dear friend,
This past month has been packed with various events and announcements. We held a successful parliamentary event alongside our partners to spotlight our #TakeRacismSeriously ([link removed]) campaign. Bringing together young people, educators, and campaigners was both powerful and inspiring, as we explored ways to accelerate action against racism in schools and address its profound impact on mental health.
On the policy front, we’ve seen some significant developments. Proposed changes to the availability and value of disability and incapacity benefits could do immense harm to mental health and - contrary to the Government’s intentions - make it even harder for people to remain in or return to work. You can read our full response here ([link removed]) .
March has been a milestone month for us as we celebrate our 40th year! We’re calling on supporters to help sustain our vital work ([link removed]) towards ending mental health injustice by donating £40. Every contribution makes a difference.
Thank you for being part of our community and for all your support.

A fundamental right
Voting is a fundamental right for citizens in a democracy. But living with a mental health problem can make it harder to exercise this right.
We heard from 160 people with mental health difficulties about what prevents them from registering to vote and taking part in elections. This report explores these barriers and how implementing simple solutions can help to overcome them.

Take Racism Seriously
This month in parliament, at an event hosted by Bell Ribeiro-Addy, we heard powerful testimony from young people about experiencing racism in schools and the enduring impact on their mental health. This cannot go on. The education system must start taking racism seriously to safeguard young people’s mental health.
