Tomorrow Autism Acceptance Month begins! During April, the autism community celebrates the fight for our rights to live, work, and play in our communities.
This year, we have seen attacks on lifesaving programs like Medicaid [[link removed]]. Politicians are using lies about the autistic community [[link removed]] as reasons to take away our rights and end diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility practices. When times are uncertain, celebration may be hard to think about. But celebration is not a way to forget about challenges we face. Taking time to relax and have fun is not forgetting about the work.
Celebrating what we have won reminds us of our power. Spending time doing things we love with people we care about reminds us that we are fighting for a world where that joy is part of our everyday lives, without worry or fear behind it.
Autism Acceptance Month makes sure the self-advocacy movement’s achievements become a part of our history instead of being lost to time. When we come together to build a world where autistic people can be ourselves, we might be slowed down at times, but we cannot be stopped.
Can we count on your support to empower self-advocates this April? [[link removed]]
In April we will take a look at the work your support is making possible right now – from fighting cuts to Medicaid to pushing for an end to subminimum wage and more. On April 17, we’ll be hosting a panel about Autism Myths and Misconceptions, and throughout the month we are excited to share events by online gaming streamers who are partnering with ASAN. During the month of April, we’ll share updates about our gaming partners so you can be sure to tune in and check them out. If you are interested in hosting a stream for ASAN this April, please email our Development Manager, Skyler Love at
