March 31, 2025

Dear Georgian,

Last week, the House Intelligence Committee had our open source hearing, and FBI Director Kash Patel shared with me that the FBI successfully apprehended three individuals from the FBI Top 10 Most Wanted list under his leadership. It was refreshing to hear that the FBI is focused on their mission of apprehending violent criminals and protecting American citizens.

As a reminder for our farmers, Secretary Brooke Rollins has announced the USDA’s Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. This program was passed last Congress, with $10 billion allocated to economic assistance, among other disaster funding.

Producers must submit ECAP applications to their local FSA county office by Aug. 15, 2025. Full guidance can be found on my website here.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on X.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Congressman Austin Scott

Reintroducing Bill to Establish Georgia's First National Park and Preserve

Establishing the Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas as Georgia's first National Park and Preserve remains a top bipartisan initiative this Congress.

Rep. Sanford Bishop and I, along with Senators Ossoff and Warnock, reintroduced the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act, which would establish the Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas in Middle Georgia as Georgia's first National Park and Preserve.

The Ocmulgee Mounds are of invaluable cultural, communal, and economic significance to our state, and I am committed to keeping this initiative moving forward.

Meeting with the Farm Journal Foundation

Ricky Dollison, a farmer from Poulan, Georgia, and the Georgia Farmer Ambassador for the Farm Journal Foundation stopped by my D.C. office last week to discuss global food and nutrition security and agriculture research in the Farm Bill.

As the House Agriculture Committee works on the Farm Bill, it is essential to hear from farmers like Ricky about what our producers need.

Attending VA Secretary Collins' Swearing-In Ceremony

It was an honor to attend VA Secretary Doug Collins' swearing-in last week! Doug has been my friend for over 20 years and is one of the finest people I have ever met.

I trust Doug to improve care and benefits for our veterans and reduce bureaucracy and inefficiency at the VA.

Meeting with the North American Blueberry Council

Did you know that Georgia produces over $449 million of blueberries per year? I met with representatives from the North American Blueberry Council to hear about disaster relief developments and what they need in the Farm Bill.

This specialty crop is one of Georgia's top ten commodities, and it was great to meet with some of our state's very own blueberry farmers who attended the meeting.

41 WMGT | Georgia lawmakers reintroduce bill to establish Ocmulgee Mounds as first National Park and preserve

"Georgia lawmakers are once again pushing to make Ocmulgee Mounds the state’s first National Park and Preserve. U.S. Representatives Austin Scott and Sanford D. Bishop, along with Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, have reintroduced the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act.

'Establishing the Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas as Georgia’s first National Park and Preserve remains a top bipartisan initiative for all lawmakers and stakeholders involved,' Rep. Austin Scott said. 'The Ocmulgee Mounds are of invaluable cultural, communal, and economic significance to our state, and I am committed to keeping this initiative moving forward.'

The bill aims to protect the historic Native American site while boosting tourism and economic growth in Middle Georgia.

The Ocmulgee Mounds area has been home to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for more than 12,000 years, dating back to the Paleo-Indian Period. Muskogean people built mounds for ceremonies, living, and agriculture, many of which still stand today and would be part of the proposed National Park and Preserve."
