We are seeing unprecedented attacks on abortion rights nationwide, including the looming threat of a federal abortion ban as our “leaders” in Washington work to take our nation back decades. That is why we are working desperately to enshrine the right to abortion in the Virginia Constitution so we can remain a safe haven in the South and preserve access to millions of people.
But to pass a constitutional amendment in VA, we need both legislative action and for voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box. We have already made it through the first step – having our amendment pass the legislature for the first time – but in order to continue the process to protect abortion once and for all, we need to elect pro-abortion legislatures this fall.
Their campaigns are already ramping up, and many progressive, pro-choice legislators in the Assembly already have extremist opponents running against them. We cannot afford to wait to get them the support they need. We need to help them now.
