Friend — Yesterday, I joined thousands of New Yorkers in Cadman Plaza for a vigil in remembrance of George Floyd, and every other person we have lost due to police brutality. I am angry and heartbroken that we have yet to address the institutionalized racism that plagues law enforcement. Our nation’s failure to confront this head on has led to the death of far too many black and brown bodies. Yesterday’s vigil left me invigorated and inspired to continue seeking justice for victims of police brutality, and to eliminate white supremacy from our city. When we come together as a community, we emerge stronger and more resilient than ever — and this time is no different. — Yvette
