* *        Governor Gretchen Whitmer Activates the State Emergency 
        Operations Center Due to Damaging Ice Storms in Northern
                                             Lower Michigan 

* *LANSING, MICH.* Today, Governor Whitmer activated the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) due to ice storms in Northern Lower Michigan.      The SEOC was activated at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. SEOC personnel are monitoring the situation and working with state and local officials as well as private sector partners to ensure any resource needs are met. MSP/EMHSD district coordinators are on the scene with local emergency management officials.      A significant ice storm that passed through northern Michigan caused trees and power lines to come down throughout the region, causing thousands to be without power.  Many roads are also impassable as large trees and power lines have fallen onto roadways. Officials are advising residents in the area to avoid travel, if possible.   The SEOC is the Emergency Operations Center for the State of Michigan located in Lansing and is overseen by the MSP/EMHSD. The SEOC coordinates the response and recovery efforts of state agencies and local governments.
