I think most of you know that Elon Musk, his slash-and-burn campaign, and the Trump White House are trying to force through more than a trillion dollars in tax breaks for the richest people and most profitable corporations in the country.

And if you know that, you likely also know that they’re making room for those tax breaks by cutting the programs and services that you, your loved ones, or your friends depend on. Deleting the Department of Education, for one. Hundreds of billions cut from Medicaid. Closed offices, slashed staff, and reduced funding at Social Security. Thousands fired, impacting lifesaving programs the VA provides.

Now, I’ve got to touch base with you on this, because it’s important. If you’re reading these emails, chances are you’re paying a lot more attention to this stuff than your friends and family are. You’re probably really fired up, too. That’s a good thing — more people should be as fired up as you are.

But the truth is, this is a special group. And the harder truth is, a lot of people haven’t heard what Trump and Elon are doing. They’re busy with their own lives, raising their kids, trying to get bills paid. That’s not a criticism, and I mean that. It’s hard enough just getting by. But if we’re going to stop Elon and Trump from carrying out the worst that they’re trying to do, we’ve got to get those folks on board.

That’s what I’m trying to do right now. The work I’m doing, my social media, interviews I do in the news, my conversations with people in Arizona, the travel we’ll be doing to support the next generation of democratic candidates — we’re trying to get this stuff to break through.

Believe it or not, none of that comes easy, or cheap. It’s a lot of work, and it might surprise you to learn that we’re not a very big team. So, the donations we get from emails like this are a big help — they’re the primary way we cover the cost of the work we’re doing.

They mean a lot to me. Really. It’s humbling to have the support of people like you, John. But it also means that I have to ask, from time to time. And today is one of those days.
