Dear friends, this is Gay Valimont, FL-1 candidate, and 2 days are what separates us from defending our values, if you would help.

Today, I was reminded of a powerful symbol of freedom — the Statue of Liberty. Discussions about the statue’s return to France push a story that underscores our enduring bond with the values of liberty, equality, and international friendship. Although the details may seem symbolic, they carry a profound message: our nation was built on these ideals, and we must never let them fade.

Unfortunately, we’re also witnessing a disturbing twist in the “reclaim game.” While true leaders stand for the principles of justice and unity, figures like Donald Trump have tried to use the language of “reclaiming” American greatness for their own narrow, divisive purposes. His attempts to rewrite history and hijack our cherished symbols — using them to fuel partisan agendas — do nothing but diminish the true meaning of freedom. His shenanigans have already pinned our allies against us: “purchasing Greenland,” “renaming the Gulf,” and “making Canada a state” have all made us the pinnacle of division, not unity. Trump’s version of reclaiming power is all about exclusion and fear, not the inclusive, hopeful vision embodied by Lady Liberty.

For me, the Statue of Liberty is more than just a monument — it’s a call to action. It represents the promise of a better life, the courage to fight for justice, and the commitment to protect every person’s right to freedom. As your candidate for Florida’s 1st District, I am determined to ensure that our government upholds these core principles both at home and abroad.

As we face these challenges, let’s draw strength from the enduring symbolism of the Statue of Liberty. Let it remind us that the true meaning of our nation is not about reclaiming power for a select few, but about lifting up every person.
