Dear MoveOn member,
Minneapolis police union president Bob Kroll must resign immediately.
[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition calling for the resignation of Minneapolis police
union leader Bob Kroll, who promotes racism and police violence.
Kroll is notorious for defending dangerous and abusive cops, resisting any
form of accountability for police officers, and doing everything possible
to block reform. Minneapolis city leaders have criticized Kroll for
opposing reform and lacking empathy for the communities police serve.^1
When Minneapolis Mayor James Frey ended the warrior-style police training
program called "killology," a system linked to the police killing of
Philando Castile in nearby Falcon Heights, Kroll called the mayor's
decision "illegal" and continued providing the training that teaches
police how to use lethal force against the very people they are entrusted
to serve and protect.^2
Kroll has long been accused of racism by local activists and even police
officers. In 2007, five Black police officers, inluding the current
Minneapolis police chief, accused him of wearing a "white power" patch on
his biker jacket as part of a hostile work environment.^3 Kroll is a
fervent Donald Trump supporter, proud to have been a featured speaker at a
Trump event in Minneapolis and posing for a photo with Trump while wearing
a "Cops for Trump" T-shirt.^4
Residents of Minneapolis and other Minnesotans, the former Minneapolis
police chief, and fellow unions in Minnesota, including Education
Minnesota, the Minnesota Nurses Association, and the AFL-CIO, are
demanding Kroll's resignation.^5
Minneapolis police union president Bob Kroll must resign immediately. As
the police union leader, he's promoting racism, police violence, and lack
of accountability.
The people of Minneapolis deserve better. We call on you to denounce and
publicly call for the resignation of Kroll as the leader of the
Minneapolis Police Federation, and commit to removing him from power.

Kroll wrote that George Floyd had a "violent criminal history" and
described the protests demanding accountability for police officers who
killed Floyd as being part of a "terrorist movement."^6 Kroll said, "I've
been involved in three shootings myself, and not one of them has bothered
me."^7 It is unsurprising that the officers who murdered Floyd thought
they would get away with it, when the clear signals they got from Kroll,
their union president, was that lethal actions against Black people are
not only allowed, but expected.
Minneapolis police officers shouldn't allow someone like Kroll to
represent them, and elected officials shouldn't tolerate police union
leadership that promotes bigotry and violence and blocks accountability
and reform.
