FIRST:

In 2020, Joe Biden beat Donald Trump fair and square in the presidential election. Instead of accepting defeat, Trump refused to concede and began a national campaign to delegitimize the election results. He went so far as to pressure election officials in states like Georgia to overturn the legal results.

THEN:

On January 6th, 2021, Trump directed a crowd of his supporters towards the Capitol building. They attempted a violent insurrection with the goal of blocking Congress from confirming the 2020 election results, breaking into the Capitol and attacking police officers.

AND THEN:

Trump won a second term in the White House back in November. It was a huge blow for our democracy. He campaigned on a hateful, authoritarian, far-right vision of government where more power is concentrated in his hands: Project 2025. And the GOP followed in lockstep.

NOW:

Trump is in office, carrying out that extremist agenda. He has allowed an unelected billionaire to illegally slash essential services. He is ignoring federal court orders. He is using ICE to arrest people without due process. He is doing everything he can to go around the Constitution. And to show how little he cares for our democracy, Trump pardoned the attackers and rioters who were at the center of January 6th.

SO PLEASE:

Ed Markey and the movement we have all built together must be at the forefront of the fight to defend our democracy. This isn’t theoretical anymore. We are watching Trump tear down the building blocks of checks and balances every single day. We are calling on anyone who supports democracy to join our movement and help us keep up the fight.
