Trump’s Social Security Shutdown

🚨 Thousands of Social Security workers are being fired.

🚨 Social Security offices are being closed across the country.

🚨 The 800-number helpline is being shut down.

🚨 Millions of seniors will now be forced to go in person to an office that may not even exist.

📉 Every single week, 115,385 more people—seniors, widows, widowers, the disabled and survivors—will now have to sign up for and handle their Social Security benefits in person.

📉 Thousands of Social Security workers are being fired—so there will be fewer staff to help.

📉 Dozens of Social Security field offices are closing—so there will be fewer places to go.

📉 The 800-number is being dismantled—so people can no longer get help over the phone.

These changes are not just proposals. Many are already in force.

That’s why, starting today, we are launching our Feminist Majority ACTION BULLETINS to do our part in helping save Social Security and Medicaid.

 We cannot and will not allow Trump, Musk, and the billionaires to gut Social Security and Medicaid without a fight.

This is a full-scale mobilization of Feminist Majority supporters nationwide to do our part to expose Trump’s Social Security sabotage, pressure Congress to intervene, and ensure Americans know exactly what’s at stake.

💔 Women retire with far less than men. Decades of lower pay, caregiving responsibilities, and time out of the workforce mean women already struggle in retirement.

💔 Now, Trump’s plan would rob them of what little they have left.

💔 Widows, single mothers, married women, divorced women—women who raised children and took care of aging parents—women who helped build this country—now risk losing everything.

Make no mistake—this is a coordinated attack on the Social Security and Medicaid systems. First, the attack on Social Security.

🔴 There’s $2.7 trillion in the Social Security Trust Fund today. That’s your money, my money and that of tens of millions Americans.  We all paid into it our entire working lives.

🔴 But Trump, Musk, and the Republicans in Congress want to raid that fund to pay for their $2 trillion-plus in billionaire tax cuts.

🔴 They can’t just take/steal it outright—so they are sabotaging the system from within to make it look broken.

🛑 First, they fire thousands of Social Security workers. Less staff means longer wait times, frustration, and chaos.

🛑 Then, they shut down Social Security field offices. Fewer locations mean seniors and disabled Americans have to travel for hours—sometimes across state lines—just to handle basic transactions.

🛑 They are forcing millions more people to handle their benefits in person. With offices closing and staff being fired, this will overwhelm the system.

If you think Social Security is the only target, think again. They’re about to grab even more for the billionaires.

Trump and his Republican allies are moving to gut Medicaid next—on the backs of older women, young women, disabled Americans, kids and families.

Right now, 41% of all women who give birth in the United States are covered under the Medicaid program.

And 63% of nursing home residents in our nation rely on Medicaid to cover their care. That’s nearly two out of three people in every nursing home.

Mostly women. Mostly our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, and neighbors.

If Medicaid is slashed, families will be forced to cover the cost.

🚨 The average nursing home stay costs $5,600 per month – higher in some states, lower in others.

🚨 That’s at least $67,000 a year.

🚨 What happens if your loved one needs care and suddenly Medicaid is gone?

💔 Women are more likely than men to rely on Medicaid in old age.

💔 Women earn less over a lifetime, making it harder to save for retirement.

💔 Women are the caregivers. When Medicaid is gutted, it will be sisters, daughters and granddaughters will be faced with quitting their jobs, draining their savings, and shouldering the financial and emotional burden of care.

📢 Flood your congressional offices with calls. Tell them: STOP the steal of Social Security and Medicaid. Already, pushback from outraged constituents has delayed the most draconian proposed new rules impacting the disabled. Find your member of Congress here and call them.

📢 Take Action—Get Political. There are critical elections this year, including three Supreme Court justices in Pennsylvania and statewide and legislative elections in Virginia, as well as special elections to replace vacancies in Congress that are pivotal in our fight to stop the attacks on women, their economic security and fundamental rights.

And in the 2026 mid-terms, flipping just 3 or 4 seats in Congress will give Democrats the power they need to stop the attacks.
