Friend,
Today is Doctors Day, and I want to take a moment to talk to you about why the work we’re doing at Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) fills me with hope for humanity.
Eighty-two percent of MSF staff are from the same communities they work in, meaning they are best equipped to show up for their patients in culturally responsive ways.
When a patient shows up at our surgical center in Cité Soleil, Haiti, they can meet with a nurse who speaks Creole and can talk to them about the same neighborhood violence they experience. When refugees fleeing war in Sudan seek care at an MSF mobile clinic in Chad, they are treated by staff who might have had to flee for their safety as well, and know what they’re going through. An elderly patient in Ukraine can be evacuated by someone who has experienced firsthand the emotional toll of war and stayed behind to help others.
You are a critical link in this network. Your generous support allows us to remain independent, providing care wherever and whenever it’s needed most.
Today, I’m inviting you to make a gift while your impact can be TRIPLED, up to $500,000 thanks to a generous matching grant from Worthington & Margaret Mayo-Smith. Don’t wait—this match expires at midnight tomorrow.
