Friend,

From fighting attacks on the media to working to protect our right to privacy, it’s an all-hands-on-deck moment at Free Press — which requires big, bold organizing and policy work to protect our democracy.

Will you give to Free Press today to help us hit our March fundraising goal of 200 individual donations? Anything you can give makes a big difference — and will sustain our movement for the fights ahead.

Friend, I’ll get right to it. Here are four big reasons why Free Press needs your support before the end of the month:

1. Republicans in Congress — with the full-throated support of the Trump administration — are attacking public media. Marjorie Taylor Greene opened a "DOGE subcommittee" hearing by claiming that public funding for NPR and PBS is "frankly un-American." Public polling shows a majority of people in the United States disagree — and thousands of Free Press Action supporters are urging Congress to protect public media.

2. In his short tenure as FCC chairman, Brendan Carr has significantly undermined free speech and press freedom — from punishing CBS for airing an interview with Kamala Harris to intimidating a broadcast-radio station about its news content (and that’s just scratching the surface). To protect our democracy, we need media entities to fight for their constitutional rights — and we need people to demand free speech, condemn attacks on free expression and tell elected officials to hold the FCC accountable.

3. Elon Musk and his destructive “Department of Government Efficiency” are waging an illegal assault on Americans' privacy rights. Going from one federal agency to the next, his team has accessed classified information; millions of Americans’ sensitive personal and financial data; and the Treasury Department systems that control everything from Social Security payments to tax refunds. We’re working hard to expose Musk’s reckless actions and hold him accountable.

4. Strengthening local news in this time of crisis is essential. Amid the fears and threats that many are facing in this political moment, people need information about what’s happening in their communities to stay safe. That’s why Free Press Action and our partners in the Media Power Collaborative are advocating for policies that support journalism as a public good.

There’s never been a better moment to make your first gift to Free Press. Will you contribute today toward our March goal of 200 individual donations by 3/31?
