Congressman Crenshaw here,

I want to share my thoughts on this past week.

George Floyd’s death is an outrage and there must be justice for this senseless killing. Last week, I called for ALL of the officers involved in this incident to be held accountable, and I'm pleased to see that has happened this week.

We must take police brutality seriously and cannot tolerate ANY "bad apples" in an institution like law enforcement. I'm committed to finding solutions to this problem.

The criminals hijacking peaceful protests to engage in violence and property destruction are also an outrage and are harming the communities hurting most right now.

Order must be restored wherever there is unrest, especially in places like New York City. Peaceful protests are not the issue. Rioting and looting are.

The violence is clearly interfering with the execution of laws and depriving citizens, especially business owners subject to looting, of their rights. I've read of countless small business owners who were ready to reopen and recover from the economic lock downs, only to have their livelihoods intentionally destroyed. We can all come together around these truths: George Floyd must receive justice. Police brutality must be addressed. Leaders must restore peace and order in their communities now.
much-needed good news
There was good news this week in the signs of an economic rebound after the easing of misguided lockdowns due to coronavirus concerns.

According to the latest jobs report, 2.5 million jobs were added in the month of May and unemployment decreased for the first time in far too long. Click here to read the full report

This is good news - especially with many states remaining closed through much of May. There is still a long way to go, but smart reopening strategies are getting people back to work in Texas and across the country.

The sooner we end the misguided lockdowns, the sooner we will revive our economy.

In Service,

Dan Crenshaw
