Exclusive: The Mafia White House

The lively chat during our discussion with the folks from Waging Dialogue on Thursday night, as well as the responses to our reader survey, show that the Social Contract community is interested in repairing our broken social contract through conversation. I am heartened by that, because I believe to my core that We the People are the last line of defense against the unprecedented attacks on democracy we are witnessing in America right now. It’s on us to fix this. As it was meant to be.

I know it is challenging, but we can do this. And we must if we’re going to get out of this civic disaster. But here’s the thing: you are not going to make any headway with MAGA on some topics. Trust me, I’ve tried. The kinds of arguments that used to mean something to Republicans (executive overreach, due process, soft power, etc.) don’t mean anything to them anymore. So we have to be pragmatic and stick to the issues that affect all of us.

One thing every American seems to despise with equal passion is political profiteering, especially at the expense of regular working people. And I can tell you that MAGA is not hearing about the corruption in this White House. They’re not hearing it on Fox News, NewsMax, Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, or any of the bazillion other Trump-promoting media outlets out there. And they’re not tuning in to the outlets that are talking about it.

But they might listen to you, if you keep it simple and direct but respectful.

Donald Trump is doing some things that would impress even Tony Soprano. Nine years ago, he said he was going to “drain the swamp.” Nine years later, he’s put his name on the swamp, grown it, and is publicly enriching himself off it.

So let’s talk about corruption…
