Dear friends,

In the wake of the killing of George Floyd (preceded by the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others) and the outcry of pain and grief across America, Texas Performing Arts stands in solidarity with the Black community and all those who experience injustice and racism every day.

We affirm our commitment to stand up for equal rights, treatment, respect, and opportunities for all. As we work to overcome the dual pandemics of coronavirus and systemic racism, we re-dedicate TPA to being a safe and inclusive creative home for the widest possible expression of artists and audiences.

TPA exists to connect audiences with artists. And Black artists have long been some of the strongest voices speaking out on inequality and injustice in our society. We want to amplify two of those voices that have recently filled our stages.

This fall, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah packed Bass Concert Hall for three performances. Last week, he shared his thoughts on the killing of George Floyd, the protests in Minneapolis, and the dominos of racial injustice. WATCH VIDEO: [link removed]

Last year, TPA welcomed trumpeter Terrence Blanchard, who along with Rennie Harris and Andrew Scott, presented Caravan, a response to police brutality against Black men. Blanchard’s words about the events that inspired his powerful 2015 album "Breathless" ring even truer today. WATCH VIDEO: [link removed]

Texas Performing Arts is a collection of individuals—our staff and student workers, the artists we present, and you, our community—who come together in shared, live experiences. We believe that this community and those experiences can and must create meaningful and enduring change in the struggle against racism and violence.
